Exercises of Cognitive physiotherapy

...continue the rehabilitation...

The exercises I show on these pages are tailored for multi-tasking situations produced in direct cooperation with patients in teambased rehabilitation treatment. The english version is presented first and, when language is important, a swedish version comes below.

The cognitive physiotherapy has been developed for persons with acquired brain injury, such as stroke. The method is designed to increase awareness on the thinking processes performed simultanously as the body is in motion. The emphasis can be on coordination or balance or both - at the same time as thinking occurs.

9 cubes and 6 faces

In this game you turn the dices around until you find one face similar to the template... This exercise was made for patients with neglect, spatial difficulties or who are in need for training dexterity.

Template of the six faces. Build them from the 9 cubes of paper described to the right. You may construct them by yourself. You only have to cut them out and fold them. No glue is necessary. This is one of the easier product to construct. Contact me for other exercises.

You can cut the shapes out from the two pages of this document. Each pattern will be foldable to a paper cube, a dice, if you will. The nine dices consists of patterns that belongs to a certain face. There are six faces possible to construct. It's just about matching them together correctly. When you have succeded with one face, there is a certain trick, to take three cubes at the same time and twist them over in order to get another face. By clocking your effort it is possible to measure progress of dexterity or awareness of the spatial display of these cubes...

12-sided dice, think twice

This is an exercise with a 12-sided dice that gives you fake-words to  use as you practice your ability of word production. The exercise is one way of stimulating word processing for persons with aphasia (mild or moderate).

Swedish version below

Print out the document to the left. If you cut out this shape, you can fold it to a 12-sided dice. The grey pentagons are supposed to be tucked in on the inside . It is quite hard to fold, so you need to bend and squeeze a bit. Once you are done with that part you can play in many ways. Producing this 12-sided dice is difficult and time-consuming. The first time it takes a couple of hours. On the other hand - playing the PENTAGON-game is fun and worth every effort if you for instance have a problem generating words due to stroke. Playing it you can work with strategies, such as pen and paper, and your opponent may not be allowed to. Thus the disadvantage is evened out for people with mild aphasia...
